Summary
The opportunity to KickStart Chester took a giant step forward when, on January 31, 2008, Governor Edward G. Rendell, Senator Dominic Pileggi and other government leaders traveled to Chester to pledge $47 million to revitalize the Chester waterfront. Then, at the end of February, Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber officially awarded Philadelphia the League's 16th team. The team – tentatively named MLS Philadelphia – will play in a soccer-specific stadium to be built in the shadow of the Commodore Barry Bridge. With the team in place, work is beginning to transform more than 80 acres along the Chester waterfront.
